Examinations

Applicants for registration are required to successfully complete the following examinations:

  1. The Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board (CCEB) Written and Clinical Examinations 
  2. CCO’s Legislation and Ethics Examination

Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board Examinations

The CCEB examinations provide a consistent, objective and defensible written and clinical examination standard to test entry-to-practise competencies for applicants for registration as chiropractors in Ontario. The fees for the CCEB examinations are $1750 for the written examination and $3350 for the clinical examination. Applications to the CCEB should be made approximately three to four months before the examination sitting. Results are generally received within four weeks.

CCO’s Legislation and Ethics Examination

Introduction

The purpose of the Legislation and Ethics Examination is to test the applicant’s knowledge of the legal, professional and ethical obligations governing the practice of chiropractic in Ontario. Applicants are examined on the legislation, regulations, standards of practice, policies and guidelines relevant to the regulation of chiropractors in Ontario. Knowledge of other stakeholders, chiropractic and health care organizations is included on the exam. Additionally, candidates are tested on various ethical scenarios relevant to chiropractic practice.

This examination is written online. Information about the online delivery of the exam can be found in the following document and video.

CCO typically offers the Legislation and Ethics Examination three times per year following the CCEB examinations.

The exam is 2.5 hours and is open book. All examinable material is sent to candidates upon receipt of their application. Candidates may refer to the material when taking the exam.

CCO will provide candidates with study material upon receipt of the $180 examination application fee.

Pass Rate, Rewrites and Appeals

The pass score for the Legislation and Ethics Examination is 60%. Results are generally available within 4-6 weeks of the exam.

If a candidate is unsuccessful, they will be given an opportunity to write a supplemental exam at the next available sitting, or at an earlier date. Candidates are given as many opportunities as required to pass. 

If a candidate wishes to appeal their result, they may do so in writing to the attention of the Registration Committee. The Registration Committee will review the appeal at its next meeting, or at an earlier date, and will respond to the candidate in writing.  Potential responses include upholding the examination result, modifying the result on the basis of the appeal, modifying the examination for future sittings, or any other response at the discretion of the Registration Committee, consistent with CCO policy. 

Accommodation

CCO is committed to accommodating candidates with physical and/or learning disabilities. A candidate who is otherwise eligible to write the Legislation and Ethics Examination may make a written request to the Registrar including proof of the disability for reasonable, alternative testing accommodations if he/she is unable to write the examination under standard circumstances.
